Brief Synopsis:
July 4th. A park. Anytown, USA.
An INTERGALACTIC de TOCQUEVILLE (IT)—a space creature who looks quite human except for her antennas—drops in, and explains that she has been sent to figure out why, on a certain night every year, inhabitants of this particular patch of Earth send colored lights into the sky.
As she tries to unravel the mystery, IT is approached by a series of typical Americans who've come to watch the fireworks: a high school NERD who's desperate for a date; a teenage REBEL who's engaged in a furious battle for independence from her single working MOM; an egomaniacal ACTOR who decides to prepare a new July 4th play which really will be revolutionary; and a GROUNDSKEEPER who wishes people would take more pride in their park.
